The Third KPM Symposium will be held on August 18-20, 2008 at the OU-Tulsa Newly built Learning Center. The KPM Symposium is a unique opportunity to bring people together from academia and industry to exchange ideas, explore recent developments and emerging trends.
During the August 19th, 4 p.m. Session, the panel participants will present and discuss a cross sector of knowledge economy communication strategies.

Carnegie Community Engagement Classification: College Commitment
All-university discussion and collaborative effort with community engagement focus
Coordinated through the leadership of the Vice Provost for School and Community Partnerships, Dr. Mary John O’Hair and the K20 Center for Educational and Community Renewal, representatives from the 3 campus locations have been meeting bi-monthly to promote discussions of community engagement, service learning, research, education and outreach through all university colleges. OU CORE and the Office of Development have participated on the committee and sought documentation through the OU CORE website community partnerships documentation process as well as selected interviews at OU Tulsa, compiled for a report for the Carnegie Classification submission.
" The Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement is being submitted by the University of Oklahoma, joining together our 3 campus locations in this collaborative effort. The OU CORE website will be used as a link for this submission for our campus and needs updating with your projects involving research, service learning, outreach and education in the Tulsa community.

Neighborhood Kitchens Project
July Meals - Garnett Church of Christ/Green Country Event Center
From July 1 - August 15, students at Tulsa Public and Union Public Schools who utilize the federal Summer Food Service Program will be unable to take advantage of those meals as all Oklahoma public school facilities will be closed.
This is a pilot project that is focused on providing meals to students who attend Cooper Elementary (TPS) and Briarglen Elementary (Union) who are eligible to participate in the federal Summer Food Service Program and their families every Wednesday night in July.

Health Literacy and Clear Health Communication
A presentation by Dr. Lorraine Wallace, Pfizer Visiting Scholar
April 2, 2008 - The University of Tulsa, Room 219 Business Administration Building. 1:30pm - 3:00pm
OU CORE and TU CCRD join together to host a reception to introduce Lorraine Wallace, Ph.D., associate professor and director of research and education in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine-Knoxville.
The presentation “Health Literacy: Clinicians and Patients What You Say, What They Hear” will follow the reception. The focus of this presentation will be on health literacy and its role in the mismatch between what clinicians say and what patients understand.

OU Tulsa Urban Design Studio Ongoing Collaboration with Tulsa Area Community Schools Initiative (TACSI)
Pilot Program for Neighborhood Planning Academy May 2008
The University of Oklahoma Urban Design Studio in partnerships with the Tulsa Area Community Schools Initiative, Tulsa Public Schools and Union Public Schools will be conducting a pilot program for a Neighborhood Planning Academy. Teachers and professional staff from fourteen elementary schools, as well as the community schools site coordinators, will receive training to assist citizens produce action plans for the neighborhoods surrounding the schools. The neighborhoods action plans will be created during a series of neighborhood meetings at each community school from May 13, 2008 through July 1, 2008. It is hoped that enough will be learned from the pilot program to develop a strategy for neighborhood planning on a city-wide basis in the future.
College of Nursing - Preventative Medicine Conference 2008
February 20 - 23 in Austin, Texas
“Emma Kientz, faculty from the College of Nursing, attended the Preventive Medicine 2008 Conference in Austin, Texas from Feb. 20 23. This conference was a joint meeting with the American College of Preventive Medicine, Association for Prevention Teaching and Research, and the American College of Medical Quality. While there, Emma presented the poster “Preventing Disease and Complications: Education Through Team-Based Practice” highlighting the Bedlam Longitudinal Clinic. Other team members on the poster included Jonathan Ference, PharmD, Christie Harrison, PA-C , Julie Miller-Cribbs, PhD, MSW, Ron Saizow, MD, Brenda Brooks, Senior Nursing Student, Jennifer Davidow, MSW Practicum Student, and Elizabeth Klenda, 4th year Medical Student. This group was one of 14 academic institutions chosen to attend training in interprofessional prevention education in September, 2007 in Washington, D. C. and received funds to promote interprofessional efforts within the Longitudinal Clinic. More about this Interprofessional Prevention Education training program can be found in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Feb. 2008, Vol.34 (2).”
